The masterclass series helps women “break the glass ceiling” and reach greater heights in their personal and professional development.
Held at My Awesome Café on 18 February 2022, She Brilliance co-founder Kim Underhill brought 15 other aspiring women leaders together in her ‘Winning in Heels’ masterclass series to help grow their personal brand, establish their roadmap to goals and let them “be the change”.
To inspire others to succeed against all odds, she shared how she navigated from the trenches to the defining success that she owns today. Kim is now an Industrial & Organisational Psychologist, Management Consultant, Keynote Speaker and Personal/Business Coach. Besides being the author of “Success Inside Out” and “New Age Leadership”, she contributes her time to helping women achieve all-around success in life and at work.
As we celebrate International Women’s Day in a few days, we find out what resonated most with the attendees and how the Winning in Heels masterclass has inspired them.

Why did you attend the masterclass?
Having attended the inaugural SHE Brilliance event, I felt immediately that this was an incredible community of supportive and inspiring women. Hence, when the Winning with Heels event launched, I knew I had to attend. I can honestly say these two events I have attended now are different. There is a sense of openness, the ability to listen and be involved. I felt comfortable and walked away with a spring in my step from the positive energy in the room.
Which part of Kim’s sharing resonated with you the most?
Kim sharing her journey was truly inspiring. Her sheer dedication and determination to get to where she is today are what resonated with me. The hours and evenings she spent studying as a single mum to better herself. I have often debated about what I can do next in terms of further education, and having heard about Kim’s journey has given me optimism, confidence, and I hope that it is never too late to be a better version of myself.
How would you apply what you have learnt?
Kim shared a takeaway for us, which was the roadmap to results. I found this a really beneficial tool to make ourselves accountable to commit to our own journey and reach my personal ambitions.

Why did you attend the masterclass?
I have always tried to instil a love for lifelong learning. Through the learning journey, we often reinforced the core values that resonated within, putting me back in the driver’s seat of clarity in life.
Which part of Kim’s sharing resonated with you the most?
What struck a chord with me during Kim’s sharing session was that we, as women are sometimes our own worst enemies. It has been observed that women who manage to climb up the corporate ladder tend to “take the ladder with them” and, to certain extent sabotage the chances of other female workers seeking advancement. Women executives may not be as encouraging or supportive of the female staff, probably due to their own insecurity.
How would you apply what you learnt?
Having mentioned that we are sometimes our own worst enemies, it is, therefore, essential to inculcate and develop mindfulness in the capacity and roles that we are in, be it the workplace, family or social platforms. By being cognizant of our emotions and continuously reflecting on our thoughts and behaviour alongside a good support system, women can emerge as great contributors to society.

Why did you attend the masterclass?
Mainly to network and learn from ladies from all walks of life. Appreciate opportunities such as this masterclass that allows me to do just that!
Which part of Kim’s sharing resonated with you the most?
Being uncomfortable is taking the first step to learning. More often than not, we choose to stay in our comfort zone and then ‘carp’ about the lack of progress. Also, it’s important to be intentional in my efforts to learn and grow.
How would you apply what you learnt?
I’m re-evaluating what makes me super uncomfortable and how I can tackle these discomforts for my own growth!
