As more gender reforms are adopted in Singapore, we sit down with Genevieve Lim, Director of MICE Management at Marina Bay Sands Singapore to understand the volunteer work she’s doing with her constituency’s women executive committee. That includes the Women Supporting Women programme, where six union leaders were brought together to provide mentorship in the community.

Giving back to the community starts young. Volunteerism also sets a good example for kids and helps the community. Lim shares the ways she involves her children in helping the volunteer programme, which in turn imparts important soft skills to them.

She articulates perfectly what the SHE BRILLIANCE movement is to her – bringing forth a community of “I’ve realised that there are a lot of women in my community that need help, not necessarily on career guidance or bringing them to the next level of the corporate ladder, but someone that needs help in entrepreneurial skills or having a proper work-life balance,” says Genevieve.

From a client relationship, strategy planning and future-proofing perspective, we ask Lim how one can say no to a charitable activity without negatively impacting either party.

As the only Singaporean female member of AIPC’s Future Shapers programme, Genevieve also helps encourage future leaders in the convention centre and venues industry to create a network for education and mentorship.

Sign up for the inaugural SHE BRILLIANCE event and join other women for this all-day, in-person experience at Marina Bay Sands on 29 October 2021.
